Playing the Teacher

God only knows what persuaded me to take up a part time job with Accel guys. It was the craziest thing I had ever done. Can you believe it chaps??? I playing the TEACHER.. welll .. I still don't ! Alas... Tis true. I remember having tortured a whole era of preceptors with " out of the world" doubts and impossibly infuriating gimmics. All those hours of "Maam... I have a doubt " and " Hey Srivathsan.. Why don't you do us all a favour and get out" will ever remain an enthralling memory. I confess... I don't remember ever having submitted a piece of homework. Well.. the story today...
If I enter the class at 1830 hrs one can understand beyond all doubt that students have been there for the past 45 mins revising the contents of previous day's class. I don't shout or tell anyone to get out for any reason. Yet, my entry results in pin drop silence. I can't figure it out. Are the students trying to respect me? Or perhaps they find me really intimidating ? : .. well . beats me... The class proceeds for the best part of 2 hours and then the students proceed to the lab dutifully without me having to use my skills of persuasion. Another hour passes amidst the sounds of clicking keyboards. I make another entry, declaring that it's time we call it a day. Thats just about it. Everyone rushes out ( without any commotion of course ) wearing an expression of " freedom at last " on the face. Sometimes, A student presents himself to me imploring me to grant him a day's leave of absence( funny . I never did that.. despite loads of official warnings ). He says, " Sir !! ahem .. well .. err.. if you permit.. I request you to grant me leave for tomorrow. The reason being blah blah blah ....". I say, " well .. please contact the technical head and bring me a note stating his approval in writing". Now... I know most of friends would be infuriated beyond all limits at this point. Painful memories of staff reasoning the " Importance of attendence " aspect with me will begin to swarm their minds.

Isn't it crazy. I was summoned by the manager today. He proceeded to felicitate me. he said, " Sri... I just met so n so student of yours...and he says ... you are a wonderful lecturer.. Also he was happy about my capability to maintain order n discipline without having to TRY TOO HARD". God only knows how I felt. Eighteen years of education rolled by my eyes that very moment reminding me of every act of torture I unleashed on my teachers. Crazy are the ways of providence. Babble more laterz
